"Human is?" A Talk by Peter Svarre

Human is?

People have been fantasizing about the creation of artificial beings for centuries, but over the last decade fantasy seems to have become reality. Artificial intelligences are talking, walking, writing and driving cars. What happened? Why did it happen so fast? And will artificial intelligence outsmart humans within our lifetime? Thinking machines force us to ask old questions anew: What does it mean to be human? What makes us unique? And how do live in a world where the boundary between man and machine is getting increasingly blurred?

Peter Svarre has a Master of International Communications from Columbia University (SIPA '98). He has authored two books. One of these books is on social media and the other on artificial intelligence. The latter, which came out this January, takes a deep dive into the practical, social, political and ethical consequences of artificial intelligence. He is currently touring the world, speaking about these issues.
